The healing power of lespedeza

Lespedeza is a type of legume that originally only grows in North America. It is a perennial plant that can grow to a height of one and a half meters. The plant has great ornamental value and is sometimes used in flower bouquets. In addition, the lespedeza has medicinal qualities that were already used by the Indians, the original inhabitants of North America. It is used to make a tea. Its most important applications are used for rheumatism. NB! Official medicine in veterinary medicine

Lespedeza is an officially recognized medicine for cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. The agency that approves these medicines, The European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products, concludes that lespedaza only contains normal nutrients that occur in the daily diet of humans and animals.

Basis for regular natural medicine

Some substances from lespedeza serve as the basis for the regular kidney medicine Lespenephryl. In particular, this drug ensures that the body retains less uric acid, thereby eliminating the cause of a range of other diseases, including rheumatism. In addition, it improves the removal of potassium and sodium, which is important for people with certain kidney diseases.

The full Latin name of lespedeza is Lespedeza capitata .

Active substances

The whole herb is used for lespedeza. This contains the flavonoids procyanidins, homoorientin, orientin, saponaretin, vitexin, rutin and lespedine. These are both medicinal substances and phytonutrients; they can occur in common foods.

Lespedeza, good for the kidneys

Lespedeza is mainly a substance that is good for the kidneys. The flavonoids improve blood flow to the kidney blood vessels and therefore increase the amount of urine that the kidneys can process. It works for both a healthy kidney and a kidney with problems. The level of urea and uric acid that is excreted is increased. In phytotherapy, modern herbal medicine supported by medical research, lespedeza is used for the following conditions:

  • Nephritis or kidney inflammation,
  • Oliguria or too little urine production,
  • Hyperazotemia or too much nitrogen in the blood,

Research shows that Lespedeza has an effect on Walker-256 carcinosarcoma.

Other medicinal effects lespedeza

Procyanidins in lespedeza ensure that a vasoconstrictor enzyme, namely Angiotensin Converting Enzyme or ACE, becomes less active. This decrease in ACE causes the blood vessels in the kidney to dilate.

Lespedeza lowers blood sugar levels

Dose and safety

There are three dosage forms in phytotherapy to use lespedeza as a natural medicine.

  • 30 drops of mother tincture three times per day.
  • 80mg nebulisate three times a day.
  • 100 drops of a tincture (1:10), taken before meals.

At the above doses, lespedeza is normally tolerated and no side effects are known. If too much of this medicine is taken, there is a risk of stomach irritation and diarrhea.
