Multiple Sclerosis and Homeopathy

Multiple sclerosis is a condition that affects the central nervous system. In addition to the regular treatments that should improve a patient’s life, there is also homeopathic treatment.

What is Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis, also known as MS, is a disease of the central nervous system. The myelin sheaths around the nerve fibers are damaged by immune cells of the immune system. It is not yet known what causes MS. Heredity could be a cause. However, it is believed that the cause of MS is a combination of genetic factors and the environment in which one lives. The closer a region is to the equator, the less MS occurs. Furthermore, research has shown that a person who lives in a northern country and moves to a region closer to the equator at a young age has a lower risk of MS than a peer who has not moved in the meantime.

Symptoms

Patient complaints vary greatly from case to case. The complaints depend, among other things, on the place where the inflammation starts. However, common complaints are:

  • Tingling, feelings of weakness or numbness in the hands, feet or even an entire side of the body.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Muscle cramps, constipation and mood swings.
  • A feeling of heaviness in hands and feet.
  • Difficulty walking and speaking.
  • Dizziness and nausea.

How common is Multiple Sclerosis

In the BeNeLux, MS occurs in approximately 1 in 1000. Women suffer from the condition more often than men. Furthermore, young adults in particular are affected by the disease. The closer a region is to the equator, the lower the number of MS cases.

What is Homeopathy

Homeopathy is an alternative medicine that not only treats physical symptoms, but the whole person. The idea behind this is the belief that body and mind are very closely connected and for that reason one cannot heal without also looking at the other. Homeopaths still work on a principle that the Greek Hipocrates came up with long ago. A substance that makes a healthy person sick can make a sick person suffering from the same symptoms better.

It was Samuel Hanhnemann who began actively researching natural springs and their healing powers. Since then, homeopathy has been further developed.

Multiple Sclerosis and Homeopathy

In homeopathy it is believed that the cause of MS is an intrinsic weakness of the nervous system. Traumas, infections and toxic metals worsen the state of the nervous system. That is why emotional factors in the lives of patients are carefully examined. Furthermore, medications are prescribed to treat a specific complaint. However, some drugs directly affect the nervous system. These are:

  • Arg-n
  • Causticum
  • Nat-m
  • Lachesis
  • Phosophoros
  • Plumblum
  • Tarentula
  • Agaricus

Furthermore, a diet is recommended in which animal fats are avoided. Eating gluten-free and gamma linolenic acid can also be good. Caffeine, on the other hand, should preferably be avoided. Regular exercise and regular rest are also very important.
