Caring for straight hair

While many female celebrities all seem to have nice, full, straight hair, it’s usually extensions. ‘Really’ straight hair comes in many types. Women can have thin, straight hair, but a full head of straight hair is also possible. Do you have straight hair and do you want to know how to care for your hair? In this article you can read what kind of straight hair you have and how to get your hair as beautiful as the female celebrities.

Types of straight hair and products

Straight hair can be divided into three types: coarse, fine and medium hair. Coarse hair is the thickest and fine hair the thinnest in millimeters. Medium hair falls just in between. Different types of straight hair also require different types of products.

Coarse hair

Coarse hair is usually strong, but difficult to style. If you want to color your hair, the color may not work well on coarse hair. Curling your hair is also difficult or the curl falls out quickly. Coarse hair needs a different type of shampoo than, for example, fine hair. It is important that the shampoo contains caring and nourishing ingredients. Always use a hair conditioner after washing. This ensures that the hair is smooth and combable. Furthermore, a hair serum is very nice to use if you have coarse hair. Use some drops on towel-dried hair and when your hair is completely dry. If you want to comb your hair, use a wide-toothed comb to remove tangles better. Finally, it is highly recommended to apply a nourishing hair mask once a week if you have coarse hair.

Fine hair

Fine hair is usually very soft and smooth. Fine hair can quickly look lifeless because it can droop. It also seems as if fine hair becomes greasy more quickly. This may be because the hair is very thin and therefore more noticeable. It is important for straight hair not to use conditioner every day. It usually weighs your hair down and causes it to hang. Fine hair could use some serum in the hair ends. A few drops of hair serum for the ends will make your hair look shiny and healthy. Be careful not to use too much serum, because then your hair will quickly become greasy. If you want more volume in your hair, you can use a mousse and a hair cream (for volume). It is important that you do not use too many products, otherwise you will have the opposite effect: your hair will become heavier and become droopy.

Medium hair

Medium hair is neither too thick nor too thin. This type of hair is usually labeled as normal hair. If you have medium hair, you can care for your hair by using a good shampoo and conditioner. It is important that you add moisture to your hair ends. You can do this by using conditioner in your hair ends from time to time. You can also use a mousse on towel-dried hair if you want more volume or a hair cream on dry hair. If you want to comb your hair, a good hairbrush is suitable for this. Medium straight hair doesn’t require much maintenance, but if you want to pamper your hair, you can always apply a hair mask for normal hair.

Tips

Create volume

Apply some gel or mousse to the roots of your hair and throughout your hair. Use a hairdryer to blow-dry your hair. Put your head down so that your hair falls down and blow dry your hair that way. Then stop blow-drying and spray some hairspray. (All hair types.)

Super straight hair

If you have slightly wavy hair or your ends turn outward, you can make your hair extra straight by blow-drying it or using a hair straightener. Before you do that, you can first wash your hair with a shampoo that makes the hair (extra) straight.

Dyed hair

Color can sometimes give the hair optically more volume. By applying highlights or lowlights to your hair, your hair gets more depth and structure. If you have coarse hair, it is advisable to color your hair at the hairdresser rather than at home. If you are going to dye your hair, it is of course useful to know which hair color matches your skin color.

Still curls?

If you have fine hair, a perm can be very nice. Get a perm with coarse curls. Or you can always curl your hair with the curling iron. This will not last as long on coarse, straight hair. If you have coarse fine hair, you can choose to sleep with braids. Before making the braids, you can put some mousse in your hair. Then braid your hair and dampen the braids a little with water. A plant sprayer with water is useful. The next day you loosen your braids and you have beautiful curls that last longer than hair curled by the curling iron.
