Dr. Frank diet… are you really losing weight?

Dr. Frank diet… how does it work?

Dr. Frank… who is it?

Dr. Frank’s full name is Frank van Berkum. He is an internist and affiliated with the Twente hospital group. He received his PhD in 1991. His area of interest is obesity and diabetes.

In the book you will find his diet with 84 recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner for every day of the month. The book also contains a weekly shopping list, exercise tips, motivation tips and a number of quick recipes for when you have little time. The book is beautifully presented and easy to read and implement. Preparing the recipes usually takes about 15 minutes. And of course you can do the diet for three months. Then just repeat the recipes.

An orange… is that allowed?

Fruit contains fruit sugars, which are carbohydrates. So it is better not to eat during the diet. If you do this, don’t eat too much fruit. Although fruit is certainly healthy, it is recommended to eat less fruit during this low-carb diet. You can take a multivitamin tablet during the diet. Then take a vitamin tablet with vitamin D in it.

A snack in between… is that allowed?

You can eat more on this diet than you think. During the diet you can use any products as snacks that do not contain carbohydrates. For example meat and fish, vegetables, eggs, cheese, cucumber and tomato. Make sure that you do not eat too many fatty products as snacks. You can also combine the snacks. Such as cucumber slices with cheese or pickle with ham or salami wrapped around it. Even a cheese board is allowed… or a meat board. Just don’t take too large a portion and of course don’t eat bread (carbohydrates) with it.

Examples of recipes

For breakfast recipes on the Dr Frank diet you will find, for example, soy pancakes with cheese or bacon, cold chicken roulade with baked tomatoes and cucumber with cottage cheese. For lunch you will find recipes such as omelette with tomato and mushrooms, green lettuce with beef tartares and sauerkraut salad with casseler rib. And for dinner you will find recipes such as chicken fillet with gorgonzola, zucchini, broccoli and tomato. So quite tasty.

And when your target weight has been reached?

Then the diet has worked. Now you can start eating carbohydrates again, for example whole wheat bread, fruit and you can also eat low-fat dairy products again. But watch what you eat and get enough exercise: for example, cycle to work, climb stairs and walk your child to daycare. You may gain another two kilos due to the carbohydrates, but that is normal. Continue to eat a lot of vegetables and regularly have an omelet with vegetables for breakfast or lunch.
